Government Schools

Government Schools

Government schools offer high quality education such as unique electives and student development programmes at standardised fees. For secondary schools, government schools in Singapore usually offer a 4-year course (Express) or 5-year (NA/NT) leading up to the GCE O-level examination. There are a few schools that offer Integrated Programme (IP), which is a 6-year course leading up to the GCE A-level examination or the International Baccalaureate (IB) examination.

Autonomous Schools

Government Schools

Autonomous schools are still government schools and they follow the national syllabus, but offer more student development programmes that enhance your child’s learning experience and develop their talents. Naturally, the school may charge extra fees on top of the regular school fees paid by all students attending government schools.

Independent Schools

Government Schools

Independent schools can set their own fees and decide on their school curriculum and programmes.

There are even specialised independent schools (SIS), which offer specialised education for students who are talented and interested in Mathematics and Science, the Arts, Sports, and applied learning. The four specialised independent schools are:

  • NUS High School of Mathematics and Science
  • School of Science and Technology
  • Singapore Sports School, for Sports and Athletics.
  • School of the Arts

Special Assistance Plan (SAP) Schools

Government Schools

Some government and independent schools are also Special Assistance Plan (SAP) schools which aim to nurture bilingual and bicultural students, focusing particularly on the Chinese language and culture.
