3. Understand what you need to understand
Every topic has different learning objectives. Be clear on what each topic requires. A good tutor helps to identify the key learning points and the outline of the topic, before you dive in and study the topics in depth.

1. Learning through communication
It might be hard to stay disciplined if you study alone at home. Studying with friends helps to keep each other in check and a good way to learn from one another.
- Form your study group
- Find a quiet and conducive place
- Agree on a paper, and do the paper individually
- After that, check your papers and discuss any question that you don’t understand
2. Notes sharing
Don’t be selfish and share notes to learn even more.
- Upload notes onto any document-sharing website (eg Google Drive/DropBox)
- Share your notes with your friends in exchange for them to share theirs too

5. Time yourself
Always remember to time yourself when doing assignments/tutorials. These time practices help train your brain to work faster and time will no longer be your enemy during exams.
- Use the marks allocated as a guide (1 mark ≈ 1 minute)
- Set your stopwatch to the appropriate time and start doing your homework
- Try to finish your homework within the time allocated

6. Be hardworking
Lectures are at the most helpful when you have prepared yourself for it. Knowing what the lecturer is going to teach requires preparation. Preparation works also enables you to ask smart questions during lecture.

7. Be clear of what you understand and don’t understand
To ensure that you are using your time to study effectively, you need to be sure of what concepts you understand and don’t understand. Most importantly, remember to clear any doubts immediately.
- Make a To-Do list using paper and pen, or even a phone application
- Type out all the concepts required as individual tasks
- Check out those concepts you understand
- For those concepts left unchecked, immediately approach a teacher or tutor to clear up any misunderstandings

9. Maintain a healthy lifestyle
Do not neglect your health when studying. In a research done at the University of British Columbia, researchers found that exercise that gets your heart and sweat glands pumping, appears to boost the size of the hippocampus, the brain area involved in verbal memory and learning. Studying is the most effective when you are healthy and active.
